(2022) Acrylic on canvas (diptych) | 36x48 inches ea. - SOLD - In Private Collection
“MOMENTS” is my third painting also serving as a diptych which is based off my first iPad Procreate digital painting; “Cacti Pinch”. Which sold for 3 eth ($10,000) right after my digital genesis piece; “Canyon Visions” sold for 20 eth ($66,485) in Summer of 2021.
The story of these paintings starts with my first ever digital painting titled; “Cacti Pinch”. Which also inspired me to also create a similar artwork like it, but with using physical paint instead and on a larger canvases. I was dared by an art dealer/gallery owner and challenged to the task of recreating it with paint. I accepted and succeeded the challenge all under my own terms. These particular canvases which are each 36x48 inches, I built, hand-stretched and gessoed each of them. These two paintings not only represent the energies of the masculine and the feminine energy of our world, but also the harmony, discord and navigating a balance of them as well with us having “moments” (hence the name), when we each realize something very important in these life-changing moments especially together as couples.
As with all of my paintings the pieces are filled with allegory and symbolism including easter eggs, hits and nods to things I’m interested in like my continual fascination, wonderment and inspiration with Alice In Wonderland as well as nods to master artists like; Van Gogh an Dalí. I wanted this overall painting to be exactly what it is; A surrealist and stylistic psychedelic narrative expression and continuation from my second painting; “St. Alice of Portland II”, which keeps the vibrant look of pastel-ish psychedelic colors with paint (inspired and continued from my digital art under my moniker “Showdeer”), representing moments of psychedelic rapture in this very important time of realizing life-changing epiphanies while the world goes through it’s own changes.
This piece was featured at Art Basel 2023.
This painting also is probably my last ever in-studio acrylic painting (unless doing an outdoor mural) as I have fallen in love with painting in oils as you can see in my first completed oil painting; “Dreamers”.
