STARTING NEW PAINTING! “The Splitting of Two Worlds (St. Alice III)” & MORE

WIP (Work-In-Progress) of new painting, “The Splitting of Two Worlds (St. Alice III)”, 2025, 85×61 inches, oil on unstretched canvas

Hello! Excited to share a WIP (work in progress) of my newest painting; “The Splitting of Two Worlds (St. Alice III)” 2025, 85x61 inches, oil on unstretched canvas! - A new work that incorporates everything I’ve learned in painting so far. This painting is essentially the third installment of my, “St. Alice of Portland” series (which includes my first ever in-studio painting “St. Alice of Portland”) as well as a continuation into the artistic in-depth and dreamy style and aesthetic of my most recent painting; “Dreamers. It’s been a little while since completing Dreamers, but now I am focused on this piece and actually have a handful of other medium to large pieces in the works as well which I will share soon.

This pic is a look and sneak peek into the very first layer of the painting. I start with a traditional grisaille technique popularized in the renaissance period. I actually started painting this way organically on my own and then eventually realized what it was technically and the history behind it. I am obsessed and fascinated by the renaissance master painters. I like to incorporate things I learn from them but also do my own thing. Next I will start with a second layer of gamsol/linseed oil mixture I make as a medium and start doing glazes on the monochromatic parts of the painting.
