One of my collectors Dio who purchased my first painting, “St. Alice of Portland”, recently made a very thoughtful post of it in a video he made as well as writing some great and nice words about myself and the painting. You can watch above and read below! - Thank you Dio!

“Chris Bigalke is a talented painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. His work is often described as neo-surrealistic pop art and is known for his vibrant and imaginative creations. His style blends elements of nature, animals, furniture, intricate details, whimsical themes, and psychedelic environments, creating surreal and lush visual moments that are both visually captivating and thought-provoking.

Bigalke created a piece titled “St. Alice of Portland.” It was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, a whimsical tale about a young girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastical world. The story is rich with themes and symbols.

On one level, it’s a playful adventure story filled with curious characters. Still, beneath the surface, it reflects on the complexities of childhood, identity, and the often absurd nature of the adult world. Alice’s journey can be seen as a metaphor for growing up and navigating Portland, Oregon’s unique culture and progressive values that don’t always make sense. It’s about curiosity, courage, and the beauty of nonsense, which led to the adoption of the “weird” tag. “Keep Portland Weird” reflects the city’s embrace of eccentricity, individuality, and nonconformity.

Chris Bigalke reminds us that reality is not always what it seems and that we should not get attached to our beliefs about what is real.

Artwork Gallery Contemporary Art Magazine Issue #7 features St. Alice of Portland.

It was acquired and added to our collection in 2022.”
