My second completed in-studio painting; “St. Alice of Portland II” servers as a narrative precursor to my first painting “St. Alice of Portland" and took about six months to complete. I had so much fun even with lots of hard work learning how to essentially really paint when creating my first painting, which took a year, and I wanted to try painting again with same size and new skills, but focus on something even more vibrant and fun and psychedelic telling a similar story as a sort of prequel reflecting on my times living in my first studio apartment in Portland and specifically my party times and experimenting with psychedelics including mushroom tea and homemade absinthe. Which also reflects in the vibrant psychedelic and intense surreal color palette.

As with all of my paintings there are many allegories, lots of symbolism as well as easter egg hints and homages to things like great artists, movies and musicians. This painting obviously carries on my forever fascination and inspiration with Alice In Wonderland and gives nods and hints to things like left-handed musicians (which I am not, but plays with the idea of backwards genius as with what great and creative things can happen in an environment experimenting with psychedelics which allows you to look inwards instead of out) and as well as homage to master artists like Disney, Basquiat, Van Gogh and Dalí, etc. This piece also features my most popular digital design Morning Psychedelia which is depicted on the pillow in foreground center. As well as the design Evening Explosion which was used for the cover of Summer 2018 issue of artistic and literary publication Midwestern Gothic. This is the first time I have painted my previous artworks within an artwork.

Portland, Oregon also obviously plays a significant role in this painting and this was my exact view I had from my third-story first-ever solo studio apartment. Whereas my first painting, St. Alice of Portland is actually set in Boise, Idaho where I painted it and was living at the time. This piece is a prequel showing my previous home Portland, Oregon and the all the wild things that may or may have not have happened there.
